File Under: Kids These Days
I’ve always assumed that each generation knows more at any given age, than the generation before. Seventh graders today, are smarter than we were in seventh grade. But for the past few years, I’ve witnessed a number of acts that lead me to believe this trend may be reversing.
For example, a few moments ago there was a loud banging at my door, followed by hilariously loud footsteps slapping quickly away on concrete, with a bit of failed whispering thrown in. I knew exactly what was happening, and found it annoying, not for what it was, but for how poorly it was being executed. I wanted to run after these kids, not to scold them, but to look at them with that “seriously?” face. Is this really what ding-dong-ditch (or whatever regional name it was given) is now?
I find myself confused with kids these days. Not because of their childish behavior, (I expect and enjoy that) but because they’re increasingly demonstrating themselves to be totally incompetent.
