I love 1:1 scale dioramas. Love them. I’m talking up there with planetariums. In my life, my list of things I love most would look something like this:

1. Wife/kids/family, things of that nature
2. Planetariums and Dioramas
3. I don’t know yet.

I want to live in a diorama. Some of my friends might even be sick of hearing me talk about how great it would be to live in a warehouse that was one giant evolving diorama. Outside-inside I’ve called it. My first house? Maybe not. But the place I’ll own for most of my life will be a giant diorama.

Which is why I wonder… (And I’m obviously going to ring them up myself.) if anyone knows someone who works for the Academy of Sciences here in San Francisco. They’re building this new beautiful thing in the park, and it looks like the shell is almost complete. I imagine that soon they’ll begin wiring and plumbing and in six months or so will be ready to start ‘furnishing’ the interior. Call me strange, but I’d love to help. I want to help them build the dioramas.

I can’t imagine you need to be a scientist or biologist to bolt fake fauna to fake flora right?

I would cancel summer plans, trips, whatever, to do this. I would go up to San Francisco from Menlo Park to do this. I would accept little to NO money (though possibly free membership?) in return. Who’s with me?
