When Design Gets in the Way →
YES! landscapearchitecture: Readers of Design Observer may be sick of the High Line by now. I know that I sort of am. The product of a design competition with over 700 entries, designed to within an inch of its minutely cultivated life, and surrounded by some of the chicest real estate in town, the half-mile southern stretch of this elevated New York City park has been so deliriously popular that...

Lights or Seacrest Out
$5 says you can do most of your household routines with the lights off.  I leave lights off by habit now (the inverse of what has become the normal habit of the modern world) and I’m occasionally surprised at how well the brain can perform tasks based on very few sensory cues.  I say occasionally because most of the time I’m not even paying attention.  The brain has amazing spacial...

Helveticons →
This person is trying to sell icons based on Helvetica.  What they aren’t telling you is that a) they are based on helvetica about as much as a circle is based on a square, and b) most of them are indistinguishable from generic symbology already present in OS X & other operating systems. Funny considering they want you to “stop throwing away money at stock icons”. Price $279.

Experiment 1
Think you know your body? Sit down with your legs in front of you.  Look at your right foot and wiggle your toes.  Good?  Okay, now try to move just your littlest toe all by itself, then your biggest.  Try to move them independently like you would your fingers.  Now try it with your left foot.  Report your observations.  Here are mine: On my right foot, I can move my big toe and little toe...

– iTunes review of Scott Walker’s The Drift. As much as I try, I can’t do it, I can’t like Scott Walker’s later material.  With two exceptions, it sounds like a terribly depressed person making demos to try to be the Phantom of The Opera in some new weirder shittier ALW...

Hexany - Wikipedia →
In music theory, the hexany is a six-note just intonation scale, with the notes placed on the vertices of an octahedron. The notes are arranged so that every edge of the octahedron joins together notes that make a consonant dyad, and every facejoins together the notes of a consonant triad.
